Romney, Obama crisscross US in final 72 hours

On the Trail: Mitt Romney visits Colorado, Iowa and New Hampshire today. President Obama hits Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa and Virginia
WEST CHESTER, Ohio — In the home stretch, President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney can count on big crowds at their events. The challenge is channeling the energy generated by them into votes

The rise of early voting makes get-out-the-vote efforts in the final 72 hours of the race less important than in past elections. But the final push is still crucial
Romney and GOP vice presidential contender Paul Ryan gathered about 100 of the most prominent voices in the Republican Party here Friday night to kick-off a three-day drive across 11 swing states. It was the GOP nominee's biggest event of his campaign. The surrogates will fan out across the country for small events meant to gather volunteers and excite the conservative base

Romney will crisscross the country on Saturday, starting in New Hampshire before flying to eastern Iowa and Colorado and back to Iowa
President Obama will spend Saturday focused on the Midwest. He starts the day in Ohio before going to Wisconsin and Iowa, finishing in Virginia
The final pre-election jobs report that came out Friday did nothing to alter the fundamental dynamics of the race. Very few undecided voters remain and polls show the race is neck-and-neck. The outcome will almost certainly come down to a few counties in a few states.

Small shifts in messaging can become big stories
After Obama called voting "the best revenge" during a rally in Springfield, Ohio, on Friday, Romney attacked the line in another part of the state
