وأشار استطلاع أجراه نيوزيمن في أوساط مالكي محلات الذهب في شارع هائل:أحد أكبر أسواق صنعاء لبيع المجوهرات، أشاروا إلى تعرض بعض تجار الذهب لمحاولات عدة للاستيلاء على ما بحوزتهم من مجوهرات خلال الأشهر الثلاثة الأخيرة من قبل جماعات مسلحة تمارس أعمال تقطع في منطقة بني مطر الواقعة إلى المدخل الغربي للعاصمة، والتي تقع على الخط الرئيسي الذي يربط العاصمة بمحافظة الحديدة، وذلك أثناء عودتهم من دبي عبر ميناء الحديدة.
كما أظهر الاستطلاع استمرارية محلات الذهب في التداول وفتح أبوابها أمام الزبائن رغم حالة الجمود التي تخيم على أسواقه، والتي وصلت في معظم الأحيان-بحسب المبحوثين- إلى انعدام الطلب عليه.
كما أوضح الاستطلاع، الذي اعتمد المقابلة الشخصية، ارتفاع كبير في إقبال المواطنين على بيع ما يملكونه من ذهب مقارنة بالمشترين، الأمر الذي منح مالكي محلات الذهب فرصة للبقاء، ناهيك عن قيام مالكي تلك المحلات بالتبادل فيما بينهم لما يملكونه من مخزون الذهب. وقد ارتفعت أسعار الذهب في السوق المحلية لتصل إلى (13) ألف للجرام بالنسبة لسعر بيع المحلات في حين تشتري تلك المحلات الذهب بسعر (12) ألف.
وبحسب المبحوثين فأن ارتفاع الأسعار مرتبط بسعره عالميا، وأن الإقبال الكبير في أوساط المواطنين على بيع ما لديهم من مجوهرات مرتبط بالوضع المعيشي الراهن، والذي فرضته تداعيات المرحلة الحالية.
وتوقع عدد من مالكي معارض الذهب ببقاء الوضع على عرض المحلات لما تملكه من مجوهرات مع إغلاقها في حال لم يتمكن مالكوها من إدخاله إلى صنعاء، أو أستمر الطلب عليه في انخفاض مستمر.

وقد أكتفت بعض معارض الذهب في هائل بعرض مجوهرات رمزية في المحلات. وبحسب مالكو تلك المحلات فأن أبرز الأسباب عدم قدرتهم على توريد الذهب والمخاوف الأمنية من انتشار عصابات السرقة، أو نشوب حرب أهلية.
